Giving Children Hope’s Family Volunteer Day on Saturday November 21 was a huge success. More than 150 men, women and children showed up to help GCHope provide health care locally and abroad.

The volunteers came from all walks of life representing families, school groups, girl scouts and groups from businesses.
They spent the day making Christmas cards for the children of WGYB, sorting clothes, filling back packs, stocking food, organizing medical supplies and salvaging metal from unusable machines.

GCHope would like to thank the following groups for their hard work on Saturday:
Fear the Owls (McGarvin intermediate), Girl Scout Troop 1912 (St. Ann’s in Santa Ana), the Westmonsters (Westmont University), Delta Lambda Chi (UCI), Circle K (CSUF), Garden Grove Adult Education Center-Lincoln Education Center, Team Bravo-Camacho, and all of the other volunteers.

20 employees from UnitedHealth care decided the best way to build team unity would be to give back to the community as a team. They got a chance to spend some time together out of the office by visiting the back pack room at Giving Children Hope and sorting food for the homeless children in orange County.

Most people are unaware that there is such a large homeless rate in Orange County. In fact, for this school year there are 22,025 children in Orange County. Through our We’ve Got Your Back program, GCHope has been feeding 356 of them on a weekly basis. Our goal this year is to feed 1,000 of these children each week.

To partner with us on this endeavor, the Dhont Family Foundation recently awarded us a $25,000 matching grant. Just today we received $4,000 from the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary club which will now be doubled. However, we have just 4 weeks left to raise $20,935 to fulfill the grant. That means we need service clubs, churches and individuals to get involved to help these children. The $25,000 raised will turn into $50,000 and will help to feed 208 homeless children and their families – EVERY – SINGLE – WEEK!

So, if you’ve been wondering about how you can make a difference this holiday season, consider giving: to the We’ve Got Your Back program to have your gift doubled. It only takes a little bit to have a huge impact in the life of a child!

Thanks to everyone who prayed for me for last night’s competition! While I am sad to report that GCHope did not win any prize money, I can say that I am thankful that I made it through the presentation! You can view it in our video channel.

In all, it was a great opportunity for us to tell our story and present our new program, the Mobile Medical Clinic to serve the under-served in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We are excited about the program and know that we will find people who believe in the program and would be willing to support it.

Now I can check off my list of things to do in life: speaking in front of 400 people. Funny enough, I didn’t keel over OR fall off of the stage. God is good!
