Our partners from Mission Viejo Christian Church sent photo updates of the last leg of their trip in Haiti where they were able to run a dental clinic, assist with a food distribution program and participate in evangelism. See their photo updates below.
Giving Children Hope provided medical supplies for the three-day medical event that served thousands of low-income women, free of charge. Here is a thank you letter on behalf of Maria Shriver:
November 2010
Dear Sean,
On behalf of Maria Shriver and presenting sponsor The Women’s Conference, thank you so much for all that you did to make The Modern House Call for Women a huge success. Over 2,000 patients received more than 4,000 services during the three-day clinic. The event could not have taken place without your generous support.
Your generous donation enabled us to provide free eye exams and lenses, dental services such as fillings and extractions, and a range of medical services to thousands of low-income women, completely free of charge. Beyond these services, the event educated women about important issues affecting their lives, highlighted the need for ongoing care, and provided the skills and self-esteem for women to succeed. We know how carefully your organization plans the use of its resources, and we are most grateful to you for making The Modern House Call a priority.
So many California women do not have access to health and financial services that they so desperately need. From caring for children and aging parents to struggling to make ends meet in these tough economic times, women often take care of their own needs last. The Modern House Call gave these folks free financial, medical, and educational assistance—all under one roof, all at the same time.
Thank you again for helping to make this extraordinary event possible. I hope that we can call upon you for future endeavors.
All the best,
Erin Mulcahy Stein
One of our dedicated volunteers, Vishal, has been with us for approximately 3 years. Recently, he did something wonderful for Giving Children Hope on his birthday. Here is his story.
A team from Advanced Sterilization Products, a division of Johnson & Johnson, came to volunteer their services at Giving Children Hope last week. This dedicated team helped with the We’ve Got Your Back program to sort food donations, stuff and arrange backpacks for distribution.
These wonderful volunteers found GCHope through their United Way workplace campaign and were a great help! Thank you to all of the volunteers from Advanced Sterilization Products!
A team from Mission Viejo Christian Church recently traveled to Haiti to run a dental clinic as well as various projects throughout the recovering communities in Haiti. Just before their trip, the team visited the Giving Children Hope offices to receive a suction machine and other products to help run the dental equipment.
Read their journal of their week in Haiti as well as view pictures of the trip.
On Friday, October 22, 19 volunteers from Vans came out to volunteer with Giving Children Hope.
The team worked with two different departments during their time with us: sorting medical supplies in the warehouse and organizing/packing backpacks for our “We’ve Got Your Back” Program.
Thanks to their group coordinator, John Allred, the Vans volunteers were able to sort through three full boxes of donated medical supplies to help ready these products for international distribution. They were also able to pack backpacks for distribution to seven different schools in Orange County the following week.
Combined, these contributions amount to about 55 volunteer hours of work. Independentsector.org estimates the value of a volunteer’s time in California is $23.29 per hour. That puts the total contribution of our Vans volunteers at $1280.95!
Thank you, Vans!
