The wonderful family at the Dhont Family Foundation just offered Giving Children Hope a $30,000 matching grant for We’ve Got Your Back!
We need your help! You have the unique opportunity to double your impact and feed more homeless children in Orange County! We need to raise $30,000 to help us receive the matching grant!
Make sure you make your online donation at “www.wgyb.org” in order to double your donation. Your support will be matched, dollar-for-dollar by the Dhont Family Foundation! You may also mail or deliver donations to the offices at 8332 Commonwealth Ave., Buena Park, CA 90621. Please make checks payable to Giving Children Hope with “WGYB” in the memo.
For the last two years you helped us match Dhont’s $25,000 matching grant and we know we can meet this goal together, too. In total, Dhont donated $50,000 to We’ve Got Your Back! Giving Children Hope is grateful to the Dhont Family Foundation for their contribution and dedication to Orange County’s homeless children.
We’ve Got Your Back is our weekend nutrition program created by Giving Children hope for elementary students in the Orange Unified School District who have been identified as “homeless” under the McKinney-Vento act.
The Dhont Family Foundation was founded in 1998 and helps fund local projects in Southern California.
A few weeks ago, Shepherd’s Way, under Giving Children Hope’s guidance and partnership, began We’ve Got Your Back San Diego!
More than 13,000 children are identified as homeless in San Diego County and this program will help to provide backpacks filled with nutritious food each and every week.
GCHope is excited about this partnership and the expansion of the program. We traveled to San Diego for the first distribution date to sit down with the men and women running the program and to pick their brains about what WGYB-SD means to them.
Check out the photos from the first WGYB-SD school as well as the video with GCHope’s new program partners!

Buena Park Honda, just down the street from the Giving Children Hope offices, recently learned about the “We’ve Got Your Back” program and the number of homeless children in Orange County. Staff and management was so touched by the needs of children in the local communities, they decided to act.
The result was a plan to implement a food drive in their offices, offering a “special deal”:http://www.buenaparkhonda.net/giving-children-hope.htm to all BP Honda customers who bring in food items to support the efforts of WGYB.
Additionally, BP Honda has decided to offer opportunities for staff to volunteer at GCHope facilities. Each month, one-hour of volunteer time will be paid to individuals who participate.
Last week, a team of five BP Honda employees, helped pack backpacks with food items for homeless school children.
Finally, GCHope has become the official charity of BP Honda! Check out our partner page on the BP Honda page here!
A Small Groups Class from Cal State Long Beach host a food drive to benefit We’ve Got Your Back.
The class is designed to bring groups together to support local causes and charities needing help and assistance. The team developed the food drive as a way to support and give back to the local community and to help feed homeless children going without.
The group was able to collect nearly 250 canned food items! Thank you so much for your help and support!
Giving Children Hope received a $5 donation from an individual after she visited our website yesterday. Later, we were alerted to a web article about the organization (thanks to Google Alerts), where we discovered our donor was also an avid blogger.
Her blog details how she spent the last year taking time each day to find something for which she was grateful. “This year,” she writes, “my focus will be on giving others a reason to be thankful too.”
She continues by saying “For each day of the 365 days of this year, Tom and I will be donating $5 (or something worth that amount) to a different charity or cause…I understand that $5 will not change the world (or even make any charities get all excited). I get that. My hope is that my $5 will inspire your $5 and someone else’s $5 and someone else’s. My hope is also that by researching and thinking about charity on a daily basis, I will learn to live a less selfish and more selfless life.”
We found that Giving Children Hope is entry #38 and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this year-long mission. Thank you, blogger Jessi, for allowing us to be a part of your project and inspiring everyone around you (especially your readers) to have a new kind of New Years Resolution!

Giving Children Hope is dedicated to providing holiday gifts to every child enrolled in the We’ve Got Your Back program and their siblings. For these children, the holidays may not be filled with the magic often experienced. To help meet the goal of providing each child with the perfect gift, Toys for Tots donated 1,000 toys.
Thank you, Toys for Tots, for helping to spread the holiday magic to homeless children throughout Orange County!
